Summer shows....

Sydney Royal Show

Kolbeach was again well represented at Sydney Royal, with both home bred ponies and stock by Fernleigh Fine Print.

Andrew Hunt and Charlotte Thompson of the Argyle Stud, had a great show with KB Covers (Carmargue Tribute / County Cover Girl) winning both the Novice and Open 12.2 – 13 hands Ridden Pony Classes, ridden by Charlotte, whilst Kolbeach Royalist, (Carmargue Tribute / Ardenhall Royal Secret), shown by Robert Cockram, won his Riding Pony Stallion Class, before going on to take the overall Stallion / Colt Championship. Royalist was the sale topper on the 2005 ‘Kolbeach Select Sale’ held at Tatura, and Covers being a half brother to the seasoned Champions, Kolbeach Promise and Kolbeach Vogue.

Representing our Stud Stallion, FERNLEIGH FINE PRINT, the 14.2 – 15 hands Novice Galloway winner was KT Fine Fashion, who also went on to take the Novice Galloway title, ridden by Bruce Flood.


KB Covers		Kolbeach Royalist

With the Show Season well and truly now under way, we have been receiving fantastic reports of the successes of many Kolbeach ponies throughout various States.

On the 23^rd February, the Show Horse Council of SA held a very successful event. Stock of our late Carmargue Tribute were to the fore, with HOLLY’S SPRING (C Tribute / Holly Of Springtime) concluding a fabulous day by taking the Supreme Champion Hack in Show, ably ridden by Margot Haynes.

Jasmine Anderson showed her own K B MEMOIR (C Tribute / Radnor Memories) to stand Reserve Champion Show Pony, whilst KB SECRETS (C Tribute / Ardenhall Royal Secret) took the Reserve Champion Show Hunter position, again shown by Margot Haynes.

Across in Victoria, KOLBEACH was well represented at the Red Hill Agricultural Show on 9^th March. Adding another Championship to her tally was Lynn Warburton’s KOLBEACH CLASS, in the Australian Riding Pony Section, whilst stable mate KOLBEACH VOGUE had a field day for new owner, Thomas Madigan, winning Champion Led Galloway, Champion Ridden Galloway and Overall Champion of Champions shown as usual by Darryl Hayes.

Onto the highlight of the year, Royal Melbourne Summer Horse Show on the 12^th – 14^th March. The first day started with mares and fillies, and in the young stock section, resident stallion FERNLIGH FINE PRINT was well represented. Winning the 2-year-old filly 13.2 – 14.2 was Louise Barton’s, KOLBEACH CHANTING (F.F. Print / Oldcourt Balalaika), whilst KOLBEACH MELODY (F.F. Print / Jammu) won the 13.2 – 14.2 yearling filly class on her first show ring appearance. Taking the Reserve Filly Championship was KOLBEACH ANGEL (F.F. Print / Necta Night Surprise) for new owner Haylee Baxter, of New South Wales, and we wish her every success for the future. Standing Champion Filly was Christine Comley and Bree Petrie’s ROSEDALE SIMONE who is by KOLBEACH SENSATIONAL (Carmargue Tribute / Syon Sensation). KOLBEACH CLASS (F.F. Print / LJS Fleetcroft Royal Whisper) recorded her third win in as many years at the Summer Royal for Lynn Warburton, CLASS returned on the third day to take the Part Welsh Youngstock Championship in a very strong section..

The Second day was the turn of the colts and stallions, and Rossanne Mason notched up another win with her yearling PENMAIN POSH (F.F. Print / Kirreway Rendezvous) in the APSB Riding Pony Section, before going on to take the Champion Stallion / Colt followed by the Supreme APSB Derivative, POSH also took the Reserve Riding Pony Young Stock Championship and later contested the inaugural Best In Show Contest where he ended up a creditable ‘Top 5’, the youngest participant to be placed. Later that afternoon, Roger and Gayle Searle’s NEWINGTON ROMEO by KOLBEACH REMBRANDT (Fairley tempest / Rotherwood Matinee), stood Overall Champion in the new section for Show Hunter Pony Breeding.

The weekend after the Summer Royal saw the EFA Queensland Summer Show.

Champion Large Pony went to Sabrina Durante with KOLBEACH CARNIVAL (Syon Splendour / Waverley Festivity) whilst Kirsty Purcell took the Champion Galloway on KOLBEACH STILLITO pictured opposite (Fernleigh Fine Print / Writhgil Concert). A new arrival in Queensland is KOLBEACH ROYAL SECRET (Fernleigh Fine Print / Ardenhall Royal Secret) who won the Novice Pony 12.2 – 13 hands for her new owners.

Barastoc Horse of the Year

Expectations were certainly exceeded at the Victorian four day show for Kolbeach ponies, and we were especially delighted for the new owners who all took home some fantastic garlands.

Starting the winning streak on the Thursday was Lynn Warburton’s, KOLBEACH CLASS (Fernleigh Fine Print X LJS Fleetcroft Royal Whisper), who followed on a class win with the Overall Open Led Championship, above her half sister, KOLBEACH VOGUE (Fernleigh Fine Print X County Cover Girl), who stood Reserve Overall, - a great double for producers Darryl and Linda Hayes. VOGUE has recently been sold by Terry Van Heythusen to Thomas Madigan in Queensland to whom we wish every success in the future.

Another Queenslander, Louise Barton, flew down to witness her new acquisition, KOLBEACH CHANTING, (Fernleigh Fine Print X Oldcourt Ballalika) take the Newcomer Led Championship in the hands of Robert Cockram. CHANTING is the first to appear in the show ring for the imported dam, who was a major winner in the UK including Ridden Show Pony of the Year at The Horse Of the Year Show, and Supreme Overall Champion at The Ponies UK Summer Championships.

We wish Louise and CHANTING every success in their future ridden career.

Friday was a day for youngstock with the new Barastoc Riding Pony Show, and what a great show it turned out to be for FINE PRINT offspring.

First in was Rossanne Mason’s homebred PENMAIN POSH (Fernleigh Fine Print X Kirreway Rendezvous) who took the Yearling Colt Championship, followed by the Supreme Yearling Championship before being crowned Grand Champion In Hand Exhibit. POSH is destined for a ridden career and his progress will be watched with interest.

Our own KOLBEACH ANGEL made her debut show appearance and certainly lived up to her name with her wonderful temperament just taking everything in her stride. We were delighted when she was sashed Yearling Filly Champion. ANGEL is another by FINE PRINT and this time out of another great imported mare who was very successful in the UK, NECTA NIGHT SURPRISE. ANGEL is currently offered for sale, and can be seen with Robert Cockram in Victoria at the time of writing.

Saturday was Newcomer Ridden day, and it was great to see KOLBEACH SWELL (Carmargue Tribute X Quamby Park Chokito) win the Ridden Newcomer Small Pony Championship for Roger and Gail Searle, ably ridden by Grace Hill. SWELL also had another connection at the show in that her three-year-old daughter Newington Sea Shell (by KOLBEACH REMBRANDT), also won Reserve Champion Three Year Old Filly at the previous days Riding Pony Show.

Sunday brought more success in the shape of the Open Ridden Classes. KOLBEACH CIRCUS was top

ten in the Galloway of the Year section, while KOLBEACH SWELL followed up her Saturday win by standing Reserve Champion Open Small Pony of the Year, whilst Linda Hayes rode Graham and Sue Elliott’s highly successful KOLBEACH PROMISE (Fernleigh Fine Print X County Cover Girl) in a foot perfect show to take the Open Large Pony Of the Year Championship.

What a fantastic Show for the Stud, thank you to all who have produced the ponies to such perfection, congratulations, and we wish you all many more successes in the future.
